A one-day neighborhood block party with a road race, a parade, and the fire department’s hose spray.
Smaller and homier than the Festa: a morning 5K, a short parade of scout troops and antique cars, a stage of local bands, and a fire truck that hoses down the kids at the end of the afternoon.
Free, and about as purely local as Newton gets. Food is by neighborhood organizations, so bring cash and small bills.
